The Royal Palace of Madrid (Palacio Real de Madrid) is one of the most iconic and grand structures in Spain, serving as the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family, although today it is mainly used for state ceremonies. Construction of the palace began in 1738 under the reign of King Philip V, after the old Alcázar of Madrid burned down in 1734.
